Life lately, 2026 goals and personal growth

    Well hello there!

When I wrote about Dave and I’s engagement, we were still on the hunt for a house to buy and I expected to continue to write whilst we navigated house hunting and wedding planning all at once. Instead, life got in the way and my writing took a back seat again.

Now, here I am, more than 12 months later and writing from the comfiest seat on the sofa in our new living room.

We got incredibly lucky in the end and bought the beautiful home of a family friend – someone who I have had the pleasure of knowing all my life. Her house wouldn’t have been in budget for us at the start of our search, but by the time she was ready to sell, we had a few more months worth of savings behind us. We had put an offer on a different house, at a lower budget, but the sellers had been messing us around and so we were looking for other options. The stars aligned, it all came together and we got the keys in August of last year.

Between conveyancing, packing, moving, unpacking and decorating, we found very little time for wedding stuff. Christmas was here before we knew it and we went into the festive season resolving to start planning the minute January 1st came around.

And we did! Sat on our friends’ sofa at 1am New Years Day, having just spent a lovely evening seeing in the New Year with wine and board games, we wrote down the name of the DJ they had at their wedding, who we recalled had kept us on the dancefloor all night long.

We’ve since seen 9 different wedding venues, chosen one, proposed to our best men and maids of honour, talked for hours on end about how we want the day to look and started working out finances too. It took me three hours just to figure out how we actually go about getting legally married – who knew there was so much to the process!? From giving notice, to booking the registrar, to deciding on the best approach for us, there was so much more to it than we anticipated.

    I’ve three goals for 2026:

    1. Plan a wedding which feels authentically us and is in budget
    2. Get fitter and stronger
    3. Start writing professionally

This blog is always going to mean a lot to me and it’s not going anywhere. I hope this chapter, written as we plan the wedding, continue to make our house a home and navigate our thirties, will be so much fun. However, it does feel like it is finally time to take this writing thing a little more seriously too.

So, I’ve set up a Medium page to which I hope to post about living gently, learning to accept imperfection and celebrating small moments of bravery. Living with my anxious brain and butterflies isn’t always easy, but writing has always been there for me. Through my writing, I’d like to be there for others too.

So here’s to Chapter Eight. A chapter set in my early thirties. A chapter full of little life updates and honest reflections. One about learning, unlearning and as always, growing – as a person and a writer.
